New Disco Song: “I’m Not a One-Night Stand”

Building out one of my newest albums, “Hypnotic Dance,” is moving along nicely. Tonight’s newest song is “I’m Not a One-Night Stand.” The song takes a surprising twist, when the party girl tat loves to dance, panics and leaves the nightclub when a strange guy at the club makes a move on her. As it turns out, she’s a much nicer girl than the game she frequently talks. Something you rarely see in Generation Z, but this young lady has her head screwed on a little straighter than what she would have you believing.

Song in the Spotlight: “Dakota in Mourning”

With 153 songs and growing I’m quickly losing recollection of what every song was about. Fortunately I’ve documented each one and wish to share it with my growing number of fans and listeners. I’ve decided I will start posting more info about the songs by highlighting a particular song and album and will cover each song within an album before I move on a new album.

I will start this new content creation effort by discussing the first song in my “Cherish” album. This is one of the most beautiful albums on https://stag.craigwhitleymusic.com and is chocked full of love songs. The first song on “Cherish” is titled, “Dakota in Mourning,” and is actually a sad ballad about the murder of John Lennon.

You night ask, “Why would you put that song on an album of love songs?” You may or may not recall, but John Lennon lived in the “Dakota” apartment building next to Central Park in New York. He was shot outside the front door of the Dakota before stumbling into Dakota’s lobby and falling to the floor dead.

I’ve always had a wild imagination, which comes in handy for songwriting and storytelling, but it was particularly wild, magical and outlandish at times when I was a child. I often imagined what inanimate objects would say if they could talk. My curiosity and imagine would run wild at times wondering if man-made objects could think and feel. While thinking about Lennon’s death in July of this year I wondered to myself what the “Dakota” would say if she could talk, whether she’s been in mourning all of these years, would she have cried out when her most famous tenant was shot outside her door, what he must have felt like to her as Lennon laid dying on her floor. Wild thoughts, right? But wild thoughts that made for a very powerful and gripping song.

It was no secret that John Lennon loved the Dakota as if she was a grand lady. My song gives Dakota the voice she’s never had, and in my imaginative mind, I would like to think that if the Dakota could talk what she would say would be very close to the lyrics in “Dakota in Mourning.”

“Summer Stays” Gets Added to My “Love in Bloom” Album

Over the weekend I completed a new love song about a young man living on a country farm that falls in love with the same girl every summer. She is the daughter of his parents closest friends who living in a neighboring state. Every summer his parents invites their friends to come and spend their vacation on the farm. This has been going on for several years and their daughter, who is the same age as the farm boy, becomes more beautiful with each visit.

As often happens, a hidden romance takes place and these two lovebirds sneak around when the parents aren’t looking to sneak a kiss every chance they get. The song takes place when the couple was 15 or 16 years old and begins upon her arrival until her departure two weeks later.

New Country Love Song — “How Do I Say I Love You?”

If you’re a fan of Country music genre duets professing their love for one another by song, you should enjoy listening to my latest love song, “How Do I Say I Love You?” You’ll find this song in my “Love in Bloom” album under the “Music Albums” upper menu item.

You know, not all of us can be a master of the English language and say just the right thing at the right time. So it is in this song, where the young man has fallen hopelessly in love with a beautiful woman with every cell in his body feeling differently — so differently he can’t do justice to the immense magnificence and strength of what he’s feeling in his heart. So he musters up the courage to profess his love for her the best way he knows how — straight, simple and honestly, getting it out in the open. And guess what? Stardust has fallen upon her also and she’s spinning hopelessly in love with him also. It’s a great song to 2-step or slow dance to. I hope you agree.

Charlie Kirk’s death really sat me back. I felt we would see him rise to become a serious presidential candidate in 2028. His death inspired me to write and publish the song on September 12, two days after his death. It’s not received a lot of traction at this point because I’ve not had time to promote or market it yet. I’ve been too busy writing songs and getting this website up and running. I hope that if you’re a fan of Charlie and what he stood for you find that my song touches you and does justice for a man that inspired so many of us, young and old.
